Clinical Case: Multidisciplinary treatment of a patient with generalised advanced periodontitis

Below is the case of a patient who came to the university clinic at the Universidade de Santiago de Compostela (USC) with advanced periodontal disease and with severe occlusal and aesthetic problems.

Treatment consisted of periodontal infection control by scaling and root planing, extraction of hopeless teeth, placement of implants for anchoring first and restoring later and orthodontic treatment to achieve an occlusion that will permit good health and aesthetics.

This case is a good example of the importance of working with a multidisciplinary team to satisfactorily resolve the very complex situations that potentially arise in the dental office.
