Molecular genetics analyses of biofilm formation in oral isolates

The intent of this review is to summarize the progress made in determining the molecular genetic basis of biofilm formation of oral isolates using data from in vitro studies on either single species or multi-species systems. The currently available data on relevant non-oral model organisms are used to compare and contrast these findings. The development of genetic systems and the sequencing of entire bacterial genomes have made these analyses possible.
